~Forget me not~
I am running running running, I feel free, as free as those celestial birds that fly fly fly far away across the lands, soaring through the open sky. They can’t be held, they can’t be tamed, but I am held, I have been tamed. I feel free for now, but I cannot fly away like they can, I must stay grounded on this earth, held back by the circumstances I live in. His eyes are green, asdeep and unknown as the ocean, sometimes they are light, sometimes they are as dark as the moss that grows on the trees, today they are sparkling in a shade of in between. I am not afraid, I am not intimidated by him, my heart tells me he is harmless, my heart tells me he is good, and so I go with that gut feeling. The others are afraid, they tread around his presence, they fear the unknown, but I do not, I welcome him, I accept him, and his friendship. “You can’t catch me!” I yell back as I get a headstart “I bet you I can!” he quips. I am fierce, I am fast, but his prediction is correct, he can catch me, and he does. His limbs are built longer, stronger, leaner, he was made for strength, built for speed, even now you can see the promise of a man in his little boy stance. “Friends forever” I tell him, his smile is boundless, and free, and as bright as the sun. “Friends forever” he repeats, and so we spit on it. But that promise was long ago made, and has since been broken, a friendship tossed to the wind, and reclaimed by the breeze that has since then taken it far far far away to another place, another universe, perhaps a different time indeed. And so now the story goes ‘“There once was little boy, who stole a little girls heart, and he kept it all to himself. Now she lags around with this void in her chest, wishing hoping that one day she could reclaim her heart once more from the grips of him.” © 2013 Karina Martinez Veliz
